The British Invasion of the 1960's brought c. Lassic English style to the USA. This vintage 60's MOD mens navy pinstripe suit from the "Kings Road" brand (Sears) which is certainly a nod the famous Kings Road shops in Chelsea, London. Some Kings Road history - back when miniskirts were trending, the first shops for modern youth fashion opened in the King's Road.
From then on, the shopping street developed as a meeting place for youth culture and fashion. In the 60s the shops along the King's Road were frequented by famous music legends like Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. The Beatles were famous for their boutique on Baker Street in Chelsea - but ALSO had a tailor shop on Kings Road called Apple Tailoring. When The Beatles closed their boutique - they gave Apple Tailoring (Civil and Theatrical), over to its manager, Australian designer John Crittle. It was situated at 161 King's Road, Chelsea, London, and had opened in May 1968. The tailored jacket features notched wing lapels, two buttons down the fron and four pockets, including a breast pocket, 2 side pockets and a "watch fob" pocket above the side pocket on the right side of the jacket. The jacket is also lined and has two inside pockets. Four buttons on each sleeve cuff and a flap on the rear. The jacket is intentionally longer that contemporary styles. The pants feature a belted waist (no belt included), a flat front with a metal zipper, two long side pockets and two pockets in rear. The pants also feature 2-inch cuffs at the hem. There is no size inside other than a blank "custom size label" which was never completed. I'm guessing from the the measurements this is a size 40 mens suit - perhaps even a 38? But please check your measurements! Chest (Armpit to Armpit): 20. Length (Shoulder to Hem): 33.
Waist: 17 & 1/2" (35" waist). Length (Waist to Pant Hem): 40. NOTE - In the pix there is a glare that makes the suit looked washed out in spots - it is not washed out - just a glare from the lighting.
There is no fabric label though it certainly looks and feels like wool. There is a KINGS ROAD label inside along with a DRY CLEAN ONLY label. In the famous Beatles photo crossing Abbey Road - Paul is wearing a navy suit with two inch cuffs on his pants.
Also there's a shot of McCartney at a Stones session also wearing a pinstripe suit - see pix.... With the notched wing lapel. Whether you want to channel your inner McCartney or just want vintage British style - this suit is quite the look! Thanks for looking - please ask any questions! 60's MOD NAVY PINSTRIPE ENGLISH STYLE MENS SUIT w CUFFFED PANTS SZ 38/40R" is in sale since Saturday, August 25, 2018.
