You mean this isn't just going to sit in someone's closet forever? It's not going to be hoarded by some werido that'll never fit into it in their lifetime?
Historic provenance by way of whom it was made for AND I was the second in possession! Now, it COULD be in YOURS! Do they say anything about Thirds after Sloppy Seconds?
Cuz' I know how's you kids like-em Sch'Loppy! This is Damn Near some "Holy-Grail" type stuff for those whom want that something extra but don't want to overdo it, like some of you Cats! More pleats and MORE TREATS! Anyhow, you get my point. After doing some digging and then later down the line getting in contact with Helen in regards to the suit after it mades it way to me, come to find out, Ralph was a U. Many people are unidentified in the photographs.
Ralph passed away in 1939 at the age of 63. The suit is a gorgeous specimen in yesteryears "Golden Age" of menswear and tailoring. Some things don't need a million bells nor whistles to make a million decibels, this is a fine example of that. Business in the Front, Party in the Back. A few pleats here, a belt there.
Kisses fingers like an Italian. Not to mention the high-end maker E.Of Chicago was rather well known for their fine menswear at the time. It's pretty incredible stuff! With the peak lapels, it's 3 piece nature, AND its fancy details, it DEMANDS respect (say it like Rodney Dangerfield) and you'll SURLEY be the "Cock of the Walk" at the next outing. Another Blue suit, but it's a wonderful shade of blue that has a nice undertone in some good lighting which shows a harmonious Blueberry/Berry like hue. There's a nice textured overcheck weave alongside of lighter blue stipple stripping as well. Truly, some fine loomed wool. A soft tailored shoulder with the full canvas innards allows the wearer an absolutely impeccable "Fit Like a Glove" drape and silhouette, not to mention the higher armholes and button stance allows for a trimmer look, wider range of motion, and adds Height. The vest has those cool early style notches mostly seen in a lot of earlier garments and maybe details later used and wanted mostly by Older Men for whatever reason, who knows, maybe nostalgia amongst many things.
Lots of fun hand done, older details, implemented by master tailor. The trousers are slightly wider and sort of bell a touch past the calf, it is button fly with a Tab Button Closure, no buttons for braces as the belt loops would be used with (obviously) a belt instead. Since the waistband needs some replacing there was once an ink dated stamp of 9-10-1927 or 1929 near some sort of hand written production serial (or otherwise) it has since mostly faded from wear and maybe a couple dry cleans but is still faintly there. I'm sure I have a cataloged photo somewhere amongst mighty rubble of vintage archives.
In the NOTES section I have included an abundance of rich information in regards to Ralph and His contributions with First Nations People's and the Smithsonian as well as added few of the only photos laying about via the web in regards to E.
