Thanks for looking at my listing. I ignore messages from people who do not read the points below. MATERIAL: The writing on the label is faded out, but it feels like a textured wool blend. SIZE: No size indicated - please see MEASUREMENTS below.Chest (armpit to armpit across the front laid flat then doubled): 41. Shoulders (straight across from seam to seam): 18.
Sleeve (from top at shoulder seam to cuff): 25 1/2. Length from top to bottom: 27. Waist: 30" - 31 3/4" (fabric has a slight stretch to it). Inseam from 4-point crotch seam: 34.Length from top to bottom: 44. CONDITION: The fabric is in great vintage condition after all these years; it doesn't seem to have been worn much or had much use. The velcro at the shoulder is slightly mangy from age, but it is still functional and not visible from the outside when worn of course. There are six totally unnoticeable marks on the fabric that I saw (most were so blended into the fabric that they wouldn't show up in photographs): one small spot on the upper right sleeve of the jacket near the shoulder seam (photo #11); one small spot on the inside of the jacket near the zipper on the left side (photo #12 - not visible from the outside); two small areas on the front left pant leg, one that looks like thread discoloration in the fabric and was manufactured that way (photo #10, lower left) and one is a small reddish mark similar to those on the jacket; and then on the right side of the front of the pants is a second discolored threading spot, and below that is a very faint whitish circular area about 3/4 in diameter (this was one of the flaws I could not get to show up in a photo because it's so faint). I'm not sure about the small dark reddish spots, but the faint white circular area on the pant leg should come out with proper dry cleaning. It's so faint that I never took them to a cleaner because I didn't even notice it until photographing the pants for this listing. The writing on the jacket label has faded out and is now illegible. DESCRIPTION: Ultra rare men's matching set from around 1980. This was the Mugler sample (showroom or runway I'm not sure), as evidenced by the attached label below the brown Mugler label on the jacket. In looking at the collections from around that year - video clips and photos from the runway shows - the color, shape, and details of this suit most closely resemble the looks presented for Fall 1980. The brown Thierry Mugler label is also consistent with this year. True to form, this set has Mugler's signature futuristic, space-uniform style to it.
The jacket is simple in shape and style, resembling a uniform worn on a spaceship from a sci-fi TV show or movie from the era (late'70s). The fabric is a light beige-khaki shade with a slight grey undertone. The jacket is flat front, like a panel that has a zipper down the left side and a velcro closure along the shoulder line. There are two slit pockets at the bottom of the front of the jacket. The neck is a modified funnel shape.
The back is plain, similar to the front with the vertical center seam but without the side zip and the shoulder line velcro. I removed the shoulder pads (photo #2), which give the shoulder line a squared-off silhouette (like a robot, albeit a robot from 1980), the huge shoulders that Mugler was fond of. The pants have stirrup straps at the bottom.
I'm not sure if it's from age or if they didn't get the sample quite right, but the metal clips on the stirrup straps are clamped tight and I could not get them away from the strap fabric even a little bit to attach them to the other side (although I only tried with my fingers, the clips could probably be jimmied with a flathead screwdriver to open them up a bit so they attach to the other side). Two diagonal pockets on the front with round silver buttonheads. There's an inner strap across the zipper below the waistband (photo #10). The back of the pants is plain. The fabric has a little bit of stretch to it.A super rare early Mugler sample, making it even more unique since he designed it for men (a very small portion of the looks he produced in the early years). Everything I list is from my personal collection, and I guarantee that all items are authentic. All items are from a completely smoke-free environment.
The size, measurements, and condition are all listed above. This includes sending me your height and weight, or telling me you wear size X in another designer. You are responsible for knowing your own measurements or measuring a comparable item of clothing you own.
I don't end my listings early for offers. I apologize that I don't have a mannequin form or a professional photo studio for photographing these items. I do the best I can with my digital camera and my subpar photography skills.I try to include runway photos whenever possible to show you the piece in a professionally-photographed setting. I do my best to describe details and fabrics. If you have any questions that werent answered above please ask!
